About the Bike Athletic Brand.

Bike Athletic was the first company to manufacture jockstraps in the US way back in 1874.  For more than a century Bike Jockstraps have been a preferred choice.  Some time ago Bike discontinued the older style Bike #10 and the classic swimmer jock.  We still have limited quantities which we import from overseas.  Also, the Bike Performance jocks that we offer in Yellow, Royal Blue and Red are also imported from the International division of Bike Athletic/Russell Athletic.  The American versions are available in Black, White as well as a grey version.  We carry both 1 and 2-packs of the American versions.

Bike also released a limited edition product which is a remake of the older white Bike #10 model 7110.  They called this product the Vintage Throwback Edition or Bike #10 Vintage Throwback Edition.  Initially they produced 6000 which sold very quickly, followed by another 8000.

History of Bike Jockey Straps

The Bike Jockey Strap was the first jockstrap manufactured in America in 1874. The jockstrap was invented that year by C. F. Bennett of a Chicago sporting goods company, Sharp & Smith, to provide comfort and support for bicycle jockeys working the cobblestone streets of Boston. In 1897 Bennett's newly formed Bike Web Company patented and began mass-producing the Bike Jockey Strap. The Bike Web Company later became known as the Bike Company.  Eventually the name Bike Jockey Strap was shrunk to "jock strap". Today, Bike is still the market leader in jockstrap sales and claims to have produced over 350 million jockstraps as of 2005.

Most of the early Bike jockstraps had large bands ranging from 3" to the extra-wide 6" band.  Today jockstraps have evolved and tend to have much thinner bands.

You will find a large collection of photos of these vintage Bike Jockstraps on our history page.
